KMSD'S MUSIC PROGRAM IS MULTI-FACETED!!! The robust music curriculum in KM goes far beyond concerts and performances. A well-balanced music education requires students to undertake major academic work including deciphering a rich content-specific vocabulary, decoding music notation with fluency, speed, and accuracy, and analysis and application of expressive intent and contextual connections. In addition to the academic and performative skills that students develop through music participation, our KM students also apply their musical talents to serve the local KM community, in alignment with the Graduate Profile. Here you see middle school orchestra students undertaking a process known as 'score study'. After analyzing a piece of music as a group, students make determinations about whether the piece is appropriate for their ensemble. Students love to choose the music they study and perform!

Last week, KM Marketing and DECA students traveled into Milwaukee to learn directly from the business professionals. A brief bus tour of Milwaukee's Historic 3rd ward introduced students to some of the economic developments going on in the city. Next we were given a tour of the Laughlin/Constable Advertising Agency. Following the tour, students were escorted to the large conference room, where a team of professionals shared their roles and responsibilities as well as fielded questions from the student group. A quick lunch at Milwaukee's Public Market was a bit hit! Then off we went to the Fiserv Forum for a sports/entertainment tour of the facility. Special Guest and the "Original Buck" Jon McGlocklin put together a team of marketing and business professionals with another valuable panel discussion. A highlight of the trip was receiving personalized autographed photos from Mr. McGlocklin and the opportunity to try on the Bucks Championship Rings. A quick stop at the Halloween Express on the way home, prepared the group for the upcoming Halloween festivities. A special thanks to Chick-fil-a - Delafield who graciously provided breakfast sandwiches for the group to start off our day!

NEW RECORD FOR DECA FOOD DONATIONS!!! Once again Kettle Moraine DECA partnered with Pick'n Save and Target to put on a community-wide food drive. DECA members drop off bags and flyers in the community, and pick up the filled bags in the days following. All donations are loaded into the Target truck parked outside Kettle Moraine High School and are delivered to the Waukesha Food Pantry. Each year, Mr. Dellis's Marketing Management class takes field trip to unload the truck. DECA's goal was to exceed their total weight for donations from last year, measured at just below 10,000 pounds. This year we came in at 10,140 pounds! Thank you to these amazing students, our commercial partners, and our generous KM Community for making this event such a success.

Irene Clewell served as a secretary in many of the schools that make up the Kettle Moraine School District. In November of 1965, she started working at Cushing Elementary while her three children were in classes there. One of her duties at that time was to sell school lunch tickets. She saw firsthand that some students didn’t have lunches and was aware that often there were those without pencils or notebooks for basic class work. Moving to various grade schools, the high school, district offices, and then the middle school, Irene worked for KM for 31 years. She truly enjoyed her work with the principals, teachers, and her fellow secretaries. During her tenure, she was dedicated to the effective functioning of the local schools, contributing her skills to help make a difference for the students. Her family thanks you for helping continue that spirit of contribution and service to education by donating to the KM Kids in Need fund: https://www.classmunity.com/kmsd/view-fundraiser.php?fundraiser_id=2301
