DOUSMAN CAREER DAY!!! Dousman Elementary had their 3rd Annual Career Day on June 3rd. It was a great way to connect community and school. Each year, Mr. Gutbrod's 8th grade students create capstone projects for a "customer." Jolie K, Harper N, and Skylar G. made a crate for the Heavenly Babies organization, which provides layettes for newborns benefitting mothers who might not otherwise have the materials they need to welcome a baby.

43 WORKS PUBLISHED BY KM STUDENTS IN ART OF WRITING ANTHOLOGY!!! The anthology, which includes original stories, drawings, sculptures, and photographs, is a collection of work created as part of the Art of Writing: Young Authors and Artists Conference held this past December. More than 400 students from across Wisconsin participated in the conference, which is co-sponsored by the Kettle Moraine School District and the Milwaukee Art Museum. Inspired by the museum’s masterpieces, students produced reflective and imaginative responses that demonstrate the powerful intersection of visual and literary arts. The resulting anthology celebrates student voices and visions from all corners of Wisconsin. “We’re incredibly proud of our students and their exceptional creativity,” said teacher Terry Kaldhusdal, who coordinates the conference with his wife, Janet. “This program not only highlights their talents, but also fosters a deep appreciation for art and storytelling.” One excerpt is from Kettle Moraine 7th grader Bryn M., who wrote, “After all, dreams are like trees. They branch off from your soul, growing deep roots that stay with you forever…” The Art of Writing conference and publication are a longstanding tradition that celebrates young creators and highlights the powerful connection between education and the arts. We've featured Malenna’s artwork and Lacy’s photo, but the complete publication and list of published works is available at http://artofwritingconference.com.

RUSTIC FALLS!!! Second graders from Magee visited Rustic Falls Nature Camp in Burlington. This service-oriented experience gave students and chaperones a chance to give back to the land through hands-on outdoor projects such as planting tulips, spreading mulch, moving wood chips, and preparing garden beds. Students also got to enjoy the camp while playing Capture the Flag, exploring the grounds, roasting S’mores, and singing songs around the campfire.

KM'S FISCAL PLANNING PAGE!!! The Kettle Moraine School District is committed to fiscal responsibility and transparency. Investing in empty seats prevents us from providing the choice and opportunity that defines KM. Our resident student population has declined by nearly 25% in a model that funds schools primarily on a per-pupil basis. While we do not currently have a budget deficit (2024-25 fiscal year), we project growing deficits that will reach $7-8 million by 2031-32. These deficits could be dramatically reduced through right-sizing staffing and facilities to align with declining student populations. This has led us to a planning process that will reduce our district footprint to prioritize small class sizes and student outcomes while being responsible to our taxpayers. It is important to engage our community. We encourage you to learn more and add questions at kmsd.edu/fiscal-planning or attend our final listening session on May 17th from 9-11am at the KMHS Library. Video of our previous listening sessions are also available on the fiscal planning page.

KM Music Parents Association would like to express our sincere appreciation to all those who attended music events this year and donated generously to support our outstanding KM music programs. We awarded over $8000 in grants to music teachers. Those grants included new choral music, collapsible music stands and transportation to music festivals where our students performed -- just to name a few. We hope you were able to enjoy the new Prism Arts Center and how the transformation elevates our student performances. You can donate to the Fine Arts Fund to support this incredible space at https://kmsd.edu/fa. Congratulations to all students on the amazing year of music at KM and especially to our graduating seniors! And remember to save the date for our 2025 Homecoming Chili/Mac N Cheese Dinner fundraiser on Friday Sept 26th.
