RILEY VERTZ SELECTED AS GREEN BAY PACKERS GIRLS FLAG FOOTBALL HIGH SCHOOL PLAYER OF THE YEAR NOMINEE!! The Green Bay Packers nominated Vertz for her tenacity and incredible stats. Not only is Riley the team captain and leading scorer, she maintains a 3.9 GPA and is heavily involved in volunteer work. Riley, a senior, has contributed to the Laser's nearly perfect season, making them the top seed in post-season play. Each NFL club selected one player based on their outstanding on-field performance, academic achievement and community service. Riley is now in the running for the Maxwell Club/NFL National Girls Flag Football Player of the Year Award. The winner will be selected later this month and will be honored at the 88th Maxwell Awards at the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta in March. “The opportunity to continue the Maxwell Club’s mission of promoting all aspects of football and amplifying the amazing efforts of young women who are pioneering the game of flag football is a great honor,” said Mark Wolpert, executive director of the Maxwell Football Club. “The players, coaches and organizations who have championed the development of the game are to be commended, and the opportunities that now exist for girls and young women will continue to grow. The support of the National Football League is a huge driver for the growth of this game and the Maxwell Football Club is excited to play a part in recognizing excellence both on and off the football field for these amazing athletes.”

WE HAVE A WINNER!!! Voting has closed and the Prism Arts Center (PAC) has officially been named. The voting was SO CLOSE that we have opted to add "Arts Center" to the official name to incorporate the KM PAC acronym. The Prism was one of over 250 suggestions submitted for consideration and came with a scientific explanation. Lasers are strong. When reflected through a prism, the beam can take different directions, but does not fragment like typical light. The analogy also applies to our students... as we learn and grow, we may take different paths, but we remain connected to our Laser Community. As a side note, we also host a very popular Prism concert each year. Thank you to everyone who shared their ideas and to the many students who voted! We are working on a new sign for the entry and are looking forward to our grand opening on January 21st. If you are interested in supporting the arts in the Kettle Moraine School District and attending our grand opening, we have a variety of sponsorship opportunities available at kmsd.edu/fa!

PIONEERS GARDEN TO TABLE EVENT SERVES UP STUDENT LEARNING!!! This year, the Pioneers have been very interested in the school garden. They harvested crops in early fall and made “scissor salsa,” pesto, beet chips, vegetable soup, and marinara. They extended their learning by visiting the West Allis farmer’s market and learning more about fruits and vegetables. At this point, the Pioneers decided they wanted to create a “Garden to Table” meal to share with their families using what they grew in the garden. The Pioneers decided on pasta with pesto, marinara, bread sticks, salad, and desserts. They researched fall lettuce and experimented with growing lettuce in the greenhouse, outside, or under grow lights. They researched and wrote informational pieces to showcase at the dinner. With the help and guidance of Jim Rydzik from Pizza Guy, they made homemade breadsticks. They created invitations, wrote and produced commercials, and used math to determine costs. The Pioneers worked on their oral presentation skills on the night of the big event by greeting and presenting the menu to their families. They also were in charge of serving and cleaning up. It was a great night!
