NATIONAL HISTORY DAY AWARDS!!! Two KM students won the bronze medal at an international history competition at the University of Maryland. Krin B. and Emma M., both of HS^2, earned this distinction with their documentary, "The Repeal of the Fairness Doctrine: An Irreversible Turning Point in American Media," arguing that the 1987 repeal of the Fairness Doctrine was a pivotal event in American media. The doctrine had been the subject of national debates about its constitutionality, and its repeal marked a significant shift allowing media to become unregulated and manipulated by outside interests. They earned top honors from a group of nearly 500,000 students from multiple continents, with 2,500 students advancing to the national level. Avery G. and Faye M., of KMMS won the state competition in the junior group documentary category in April with their documentary, "Bruce Springsteen's Historic Concert in East Berlin on July 19, 1988." They claimed that this concert was a significant catalyst for cultural and societal rebellion, contributing to the collapse of the Berlin Wall. It was one of several turning points that toppled a government, ended the Cold War, and transformed the global landscape. NHS involves presenting a process paper, bibliography, documentaries and being interviewed by a panel of judges, including professors, historians, and legislators. This completes a year-long project for these students. Mational History Day is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year!

Congratulations again to our graduating class of 2024!!!

Have a great summer! We'll see you in the fall for the 2024-25 school year!

Let's show our teachers and support staff how much we appreciate the time and energy they invest in our kids!
The newly formed HS2ParentsConnect group is coordinating a Staff Appreciation Lunch on Monday, May 6th. Lunch will include soup, salad and sandwiches from Panera along with tasty homemade desserts donated by our very own HS^2 students.
We invite you, our HS^2 families, to pitch in to cover the cost of the meal. Any surplus funds will be applied to help pay for a visit from the Kona Shaved Ice Truck as a special treat for students to end the school year on May 31st. Please send donations via VENMO to @HS2ParentsConnect. If you are not a VENMO user, cash donations can be given to Lili Ragen in Mrs. B's advisory.
~Your HS2ParentsConnect team
Note - This is a parent organized group, and is not school sponsored.

Check out this FREE summer Science Camp at Alverno College! Deadline to register is May 1st!

Throughout the first semester, the HS^2 AP Environmental Science students created their own EcoColumns. The purpose of an EcoColumn is to demonstrate how all different parts of nature interact in one ecosystem, while also teaching us certain ways of how animals and plants survive and what factors can influence change in the ecosystem. After initial construction, the APES students spent three months collecting and analyzing data while they added seeds, leaf littler, detritivores, and fish!

Today, two HS^2 teams competed in the 2024 Wisconsin Dairyland Programming Competition held by the Marquette University Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) student group.
Seniors Ethan and Henry, participated in the Blue Division of the competition where they were given three hours and two computers to work collaboratively to solve problems similar in scope to Advanced Placement Computer Science exam questions.
Amelia (Sophomore) and Taylor (Freshman) participated in the Eagle Division of the competition where they were given three hours to develop a solution to solve a problem that is present in society and is awaiting a technological solution. At the end of the three hours, the students presented their solution to a small board of faculty members.
