Middle School Orchestra "Dousman Song" World Premiere! KM middle school orchestra members performed at Dousman Elementary's October Character Assembly this morning. The musicians, taught and conducted by Ms. Weber, performed a WORLD PREMIERE of "The Dousman School Song" for string orchestra. The song was originally composed by retired KM Music Teacher Vicki Marshall, who taught Ms. Weber in the early 90's. Ms. Weber arranged the piece for string orchestra and taught her students the piece, who were then joined in song by the entire Dousman student body! As a Dousman Alumni, Ms. Weber reiterates the impact that music had on her self-concept and enjoyment of school as a young student. We are so grateful to all of our current and past District music staff and the robust elementary music programming! The Dousman Bullfrogs loved the performance, and were very respectful audience members!

Help KM's future engineers! The KM FRC Laser Robotics program is looking for mentors with mechanical or electrical engineering expertise to work alongside our high school students. More Homecoming Parade photos from Mike Brickl, one of our volunteer photographers. If you see someone running around our events with a camera, whether it be Mike, Roger, Michelle, Scott, or one of the many volunteers I've not met, please thank them. We cannot be everywhere, and their incredible talent and generosity play a major role in telling our story. We'd also like to thank the KM Community for coming out to support us last weekend!

The Homecoming Parade Friday presented an opportunity for our KM Community and students of all ages to come together to enjoy the beautiful weather and celebrate this fun-filled week. It was wonderful seeing all of the various clubs and teams represented!

After the presentation, the new Trailblazers were presented with a plaque and stayed for a lovely brunch, organized by our own Jackie Behling and Jenny Godin. Congratulations to all of these wonderful ladies!

KMSD held its first World Cafe today with more than 65 participants and team members in attendance. This conversation with community members, parents, students, and staff will inform our strategic vision for the next 3-5 years. The discussion centered around four main questions for the district 1) What do you value most about KMSD? 2) Imagine 3-5 years from now. What do you hope KMSD looks like? 3) If you could change one thing, what would it be? What would you like more of, less of, or new? 4) Based on these discussions, what do you hope the strategic plan prioritizes? Our virtual World Cafe will take place Tuesday evening and will follow the same format. A community survey was also sent out via postcard. If you have not yet participated in this survey, we urge you to do so by 10/2. Your voice is an important part of this process! If you would like to learn more, visit https://www.kmsd.edu/page/spt. Thank you to everyone who has participated. We appreciate your time and engagement!

Two HS^2 Students Earned Perfect Scores on the Advanced Placement® (AP) Research Exam. Lexi Strickland and Anna Sueflohn were among 357 students (out of more than 30,000 nationwide) to earn this distinction. Their extraordinary accomplishments highlight the ongoing efforts to support academic excellence in the Kettle Moraine School District. They also speak to the incredible learning environment provided by our High School of Health Sciences, which was recently named the best high school in Wisconsin by US News. We are so proud of Lexi, Anna, and all of our AP students and teachers. AP courses and exams provide opportunities to take college-level courses, and earn college credits and placements, while still in high school. We will be featuring an interview with Lexi and Anna in tomorrow's Laser Focused, so watch your "in-box" to learn more about the wonderful things that are happening at KM!

The Waukesha Freeman shared a really nice article this morning on our upgraded facilities! The article featured quotes from our naming sponsors, coaches, and an overview of the project from CFO, John Stellmacher. We are incredibly proud of this project and the fiscal and logistical planning that went into it. We look forward to sharing additional updates as we complete upgrades to our spring sport venues. We cannot thank the entire KM Community enough for their support during this process! https://waukeshafreeman-wi.newsmemory.com/?publink=056c34e17_134ad2d
