Fiscal Planning

The Kettle Moraine School District is committed to fiscal responsibility and transparency. Investing in empty seats prevents us from providing the choice and opportunity that defines KM. Our resident student population has declined by nearly 25% in a model that funds schools primarily on a per-pupil basis. While we do not currently have a budget deficit (2024-25 fiscal year), we project growing deficits that will reach $7-8 million by 2031-32. These deficits could be dramatically reduced through right-sizing staffing and facilities to align with declining student populations. This has led us to a planning process that will reduce our district footprint to prioritize small class sizes and student outcomes while being responsible to our taxpayers. It is important to engage our community. We encourage you to learn more and add questions at kmsd.edu/fiscal-planning or attend a listening session on May 8th from 6-8pm or May 17th from 9-11am at the KMHS Library.
