“The plan we have created is like a lens that we can look through when making decisions and creating action plans. It will help guide us as we make decisions and prioritize action steps and will help us focus on what is most important to our student, parent and community stakeholders.”

Strategic Planning & Visioning Process

The Kettle Moraine School District is in the process of formulating a new strategic plan that is more aligned with current fiscal realities, educational outcomes, and community expectations.

The scope of this project is to guide the Kettle Moraine School District through a process that will result in a clear purpose and mission statement. We will also formulate overarching strategies that will empower school district leaders to execute action in a clear direction shared and developed by community stakeholders.

Strategic Planning Team:

The SPT is made up of 20 community members, educators, business leaders, students, parents, board members, and others. These members are key stakeholders who have been selected because of their connections to the community and their passion for the success of the district and the children and families they serve. These leaders will be participating in the World Cafes to listen carefully for themes that will inform the strategic planning process. In addition, they will be reviewing other data (survey, etc.) that will provide a foundation of common understanding of the current state of the district. The SPT will participate in interactive workshops over several weeks to develop the strategic plan.

Community Perception Survey

As part of our Strategic Planning Initiative, sent out a survey to all community members to gain insights into how the district is perceived and learn more about what they hope to see in our school district moving forward. Survey instructions were sent out in September, via postcard, and responses are being incorporated into the district's plans moving forward.

World Cafes

In addition to our Community Perception Survey, we hosted two World Cafes, one in-person and one virtual, where anyone in our KM Community was able to sign up and have a strong voice in the formulation of our strategic plan. We also hosted a student led World Cafe at KMMS and KMHS where students volunteered to respond to the same questions as community members and those results are all being incorporated into our process.

Reporting and Implementation

The team has completed the phase of distilling the data that was collected. We pulled out key themes and suggestions, developed new mission and purpose statements, and drafted specific action and implementation items. We are currently presenting these plans to staff members by building and will be presenting our findings to the community and the KMSD School Board on January 30th. After that, we will begin implementing these findings into our daily communications and educational practices.
