HOST FAMILIES NEEDED!!! Several foreign exchange students need host families for the 25-26 school year at KMHS. We have a girl, Ines 16, from Argentina who loves movies, reading, travel, writing, horseback riding, cross country skiing and all things active and outdoors. According to Ines, "I consider myself an ambitious and brave person, and I believe that I can do anything that I put on my mind. Even if I struggle a lot, I know that eventually, I will achieve it. For me, both university and career goals are very important objectives in my life. At school, I have chosen biology related subjects, and have always been interested in being a biochemist or maybe a biotech." We also have a boy, Ludwig 16, who enjoys pop music, pets, reading, and sporting events. He plays basketball, soccer and tennis and loves American football. "I hope the program will make me more self-reliant, more flexible and that it will provide me with a more cosmopolitan outlook," said Ludwig. "After my year abroad, I will attend school for another 2 years to acquire a diploma which allows me to study at university. I would like to become a journalist." The students' families pay all expenses and provide their medical insurance. Our students speak English and want to learn about America. Please help them realize their dream, Contact Carrie asap for information at 414-899-3890 or schulzcarr@aol.com.

Sadie Groskruetz, in addition to winning a Gold Key in the Scholastic Art & Writing Contest, has been nominated for the National Scholastic American Visions Award for her piece "Mr. Fluff Butt". From her artist statement: "I made this giant textured monster because I was in an art museum and was a little irritated that I couldn't physically touch and interact with any of the art. I wanted this to be a piece that promoted audience interaction with art. I want people to feel all the textures and fabrics and hopefully appreciate it with more than one sense. There is a 'Please Touch Me!' sign that goes with this piece, which ironically, the Museum chose not to include with the displayed piece." Each year, Wisconsin Regional judges select five superior works from the Gold Key winners as nominees for the American Visions Award medal. National judges then award one outstanding artwork from each regional exhibition. Sadie's piece is one of 5 pieces nominated from the Wisconsin Region. That is 1 piece out of 2500 (estimated), and 1 out of 150 Gold Keys awarded. So, top 1%. There are only 250 nominees nationwide. So, congratulations, Sadie.

KM PERFORM STUDENTS ALSO KNOW HOW TO LISTEN!!! Last Friday, three students from the Kettle Moraine School for Arts and Performance participated in the Minnesota Music Listening Competition, with their coach, Ms. Hannah Sternberg. Our students competed against 8 other teams for the regional competition and earned second place, missing first by only 5 points! With this score, our students qualified for the national competition. To prepare, students studied over 60 pieces from all of music history dating back to 1100 AD! They then worked together to complete a test that asked specific details about select pieces, and had to identify which of the many pieces was playing from a 5-10 second excerpt! Congratulations on their nationals qualification!

WE HAVE A WINNER!!! Voting has closed and the Prism Arts Center (PAC) has officially been named. The voting was SO CLOSE that we have opted to add "Arts Center" to the official name to incorporate the KM PAC acronym. The Prism was one of over 250 suggestions submitted for consideration and came with a scientific explanation. Lasers are strong. When reflected through a prism, the beam can take different directions, but does not fragment like typical light. The analogy also applies to our students... as we learn and grow, we may take different paths, but we remain connected to our Laser Community. As a side note, we also host a very popular Prism concert each year. Thank you to everyone who shared their ideas and to the many students who voted! We are working on a new sign for the entry and are looking forward to our grand opening on January 21st. If you are interested in supporting the arts in the Kettle Moraine School District and attending our grand opening, we have a variety of sponsorship opportunities available at kmsd.edu/fa!
