KMMS STUDENTS EXPERIENCE HANDS ON LEARNING OF CARDIOVASCULAR PROCESSES!!! Mrs. Wroblewski's and Mrs. Kobus' seventh grade Discover and Navigate science students got the unique experience of dissecting pig hearts with the guidance of an industry expert. Kiely Page sells cardiovascular devices for Boston Scientific and instructs physicians on how to use stents and other devices. Kiely taught students the anatomy of the heart, blood flow, main arteries, and the nuances of cardiology. Students were excited to learn how to dissect, touch all four chambers, identify the aorta and vena cava, and gain insights into various medical careers. We are so thankful for Ms. Kiely Page's expertise and for her mom, Mrs. Kelly Page, for connecting us with her. This was great practice for students as they learn body systems through labs, interactive demos, models, readings, and now dissection!

KMMS BAND CONCERTS!!! Our middle school band students held two very successful concerts last week. The growth of our musicians over the course of this year has been incredible to hear and the crowds were fantastic!

Dietmar Schultke spoke to KMMS students about his firsthand experience living behind the Iron Curtain, his longing for freedom, and his exhilaration when the Berlin Wall finally fell. He explained how he realized, at their age, that he was living under a fascist regime in East Germany and how they controlled all of the information he received. Schultke, now residing in reunified Germany, found his way to Kettle Moraine Middle School thanks to two sixth-graders, Avery G. and Faye M. Intrigued by his research on the fall of the Berlin Wall, they discovered a lecture he had given at a German museum on YouTube. Through a Google Meet online call, the girls interviewed Schultke for their National History Day project, which ultimately led to his visit to the U.S. and his talk at the middle school. The girls' documentary, which includes Mr. Schultke, focuses on a single rock ‘n’ roll concert that inspired the young East Germans to challenge the government and bring down the wall. Their video, one of three at a regional competition, will be competing at the state level in Madison on April 20th.
NATIONAL TEACHERS HALL OF FAME!!!! Mr. Kaldhusdal is one of only five teachers from across the United States to be inducted into the National Teachers Hall of Fame for the class of 2024. Ironically, two came from southeast Wisconsin. Terry learned of the honor during a surprise announcement at Kettle Moraine Middle School. The event was attended by his current sixth grade students, the forensic team he advises, and many colleagues and friends from throughout his time in education. Former students Emma Manion and Krin Blegen, both in HS^2, spoke eloquently about how he has supported their growth, made them critical thinkers, inspired them to become better citizens, and instilled a pattern of lifelong learning. KMMS AND KMHS JAZZ IN THE KETTLE!! Jazz In the Kettle featured close to a hundred student performers. It was held in the high school auditorium, and showcased KM's strong Jazz program. Performances included the 7th and 8th Grade KMMS Jazz Ensembles, KMHS Jazz Combo, and KMHS Jazz Ensembles I and II. Great work to all of these student performers and instructors!
SAVE THE DATE FOR HONK – A Musical Tale of "The Ugly Duckling!" Since it first hatched in 1993, Stiles & Drewe's musical, Honk!, has winged its way around the world in over 8,000 productions and in many different languages. Winner of multiple awards, including the 2000 Olivier Award for Best Musical, this heartwarming celebration of being different is sure to delight audiences of all ages with its sparkling wit and memorable score. Ugly looks quite a bit different from his darling duckling brothers and sisters. The other animals on the farm are quick to notice and point this out, despite his mother's protective flapping. Feeling rather foul about himself, the little fowl finds himself on an adventure of self-discovery, all the while unknowingly outwitting a very hungry Cat. Along the way, Ugly meets a whole flock of unique characters and finds out that being different is not a bad thing to be. With its bouncing score and universal story, this touching musical with plenty of heart will captivate audiences of all ages.

KMMS STATE FORENSICS COMPETITION!!!! The Kettle Moraine Middle School Forensics Team participated in the State Competition held at Brookfield Central High School over the weekend. Over 1,200 students and 70 teams competed from across the state. Thirteen KM orators came home with medals. Two took third place, six won second place, and one is now a State Champion. Third-place finishers include Kristen M. and Ben P. Second places finishers include Ava S., Jolie K., Julia B., the team of Makenna H. and Anna M., and the team of Taylor A. and Anabelle G.. And Grace K. took top honors with her speech "How Dare You: A Warning on Global Warming".
Congratulations to all of our speakers who persevered, worked tirelessly, and were looking to improve all year long.
KM CONNECT STUDENT CREATES AMAZING REPURPOSED VERSION OF STARRY NIGHT!! Delia is such a joy, and we are incredibly thrilled with her unique artwork. She gathered her materials from found items in her Grandpa Joel and Great Grandpa Jim's workshops. She also scavenged office supplies from her mom, to achieve the beautiful blue paper clip sky. Family members and neighbors saved their can tabs, and the moon is the top of a pasta sauce jar. All of this was done independently through KM Connect's virtual academy and Mr. Langanecker's class. Great work Delia!!!
KM BOYS BASKETBALL ADVANCES TO SECTIONAL FINALS IN ELKHORN ON SATURDAY!!! The boys clinched their trip to the finals, beating Beloit 71-64 in Milton last night. Their Sectional Final game will be played against Janesville Craig Saturday March 9th at 1:00 pm at Elkhorn High School. The winner of this game advances to the State Tournament in Madison! JOIN US FOR JAZZ IN THE KETTLE!!! Enjoy an evening of Jazz on Tuesday, March 19th! Jazz In The Kettle is our annual district jazz festival featuring KMMS 7th and 8th Grade Jazz as well as KMHS Jazz Ensembles I and II. This free concert starts at 7pm in the KMHS Auditorium.
KMMP SOLO AND ENSEMBLE RECAP!! KM Music Parents extends a hearty "Thank you!" to all who volunteered and donated items to Solo & Ensemble this past weekend. The event was a huge success and wouldn't happen without the generous support of the KM community. We'd also like to send a "shout out" to the music educators who helped everything run smoothly and prepared the students for their performances. We had over 350 MS and HS performances and 58 individuals and groups who qualified to participate at the State Solo & Ensemble event in April.
KMMS STUDENTS HOLD CONCERT FOR THREE PILLARS RESIDENTS!!! Ms. Webers orchestra students played a variety of pieces for a captive audience and everyone's day seemed to be made a little brighter by the performance. Thank you to all who attended and participated.
ROBOTICS TEAM HEADED TO STATE SATURDAY AND VISIT FROM LT. GOVERNOR!!!! The State competition will be held at Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) on Saturday March 2, 2024 from 7am to about 5:30pm at MSOE's Kern Center 1245 N Broadway, Milwaukee. Lt. Governor Sara Rodriguez stopped by to visit with team Laser Tech at KMHS. The team shared a demonstration of their robot and talked about the objectives of this year's game. They also discussed the various roles team members played in the project. Ms. Rodriguez shared her background with the students, asked about their future plans, and encouraged them to keep working hard to achieve their goals. HOST A FOREIGN EXCHANGE STUDENT!!! We currently have one student who is looking to stay with an area family as part of this wonderful cultural exchange. Paola, 17, from France, is coming to KMHS in the fall and needs a host family. She loves skiing, and tennis and is good with pets. She will pay all expenses, and has medical insurance. Paola wants to know our culture and will participate in school and family activities. She speaks English and wants to practice by living among Americans.
