A Win for the Windy City

  1. Ford had yet to come out with its first Model T, Theodore Roosevelt was the 26th president of the United States, and World World I has not started. This was also the last time the Chicago Cubs won the World Series. Now the year is 2016, and the Cubs are back on top.

It has been an 108 year dry spell for one of the original teams in the MLB. However, they were finally able to crack the draught with a 8-7 Game 7 win in extra innings over the Cleveland Indians. The series was a hard-fought battle for the Cubs, as they lost three of their first four games. Things looked bleak in Game 5 at Wrigley Field when the Indians had a chance to run away with the trophy. Despite the unlikely odds, Chicago was able to rally and come through with a 3-2 win.

For Chicago fans, this victory was a long time coming “I grew up in Illinois, so I've been a Cubs fan since birth,” says Abby Blue a life-long Cubs fan, “I know that the day after the game was a big deal in Chicago, and thousands of people went to the parade. Some of my family members went to it. The last time the Cubs won, they had won two World Series in a row, so I think a lot of people in Chicago are hoping for another back-to-back win.”

It has been a long awaited win for the Windy City. The excitement continues for Chicago--street vendors selling memorabilia and countless parties, and a long wait until next season --they hope that the Cubs will be once again be world champions.
