If you haven’t yet seen promposals (the act of asking someone to prom) running rampant across social media, be prepared, because they’re coming. That’s right, folks. It’s Prom season and you know what that means. It’s time to rent a tux, buy a dress, and polish those dance movies for a “Great Gatsby” night. The Kettle Moraine High School’s 2016 The Great Gatsby Prom will take place on Saturday, May 21st, at the Milwaukee County Zoo.
Prep for the event has been going on for weeks. Tickets were sold, songs were selected, and members of the “Royal Court” were voted on. This year, the song will be “September” by Earth, Wind & Fire. Though the prom court has been announced, the King and Queen will not reign until the Grand March, where prom attendees walk across a stage to show off their outfits to family and friends. From there, attendees will be bused to the Zoo for an night they won’t forget. “It's such a memorable and fun experience to have in high school and to be able to look back on,” says Hannah Delmore, a junior member of the Prom Committee, “I think everyone should at least go once because being able to make fun memories with your best friends is one everyone should have!”
A committee is put together every year to help plan, schedule, and execute this event. “I think it [being on Prom Committee] really lets you appreciate the work that goes into planning an event like this and it is a lot of fun to be able to be apart of the process.”
All in all, prom is an unforgettable night filled with dancing, food, and plenty of memories. Here’s to hoping Prom is a great Gatsby night.
