Kettle Moraine School District Inducts Three New Members to its Alumni Trailblazer Hall of Fame


Three Kettle Moraine School District alumni were inducted into the Trailblazer Hall of Fame on Friday, May 17. Kay (Aplin) Burke, Class of 1968; Jane (Droegkamp) Lurvey, Class of 1969; and David A. Nelson, Class of 1973, were selected as the newest inductees through a formal selection process.
Kay (Aplin) Burke (Class of 1968) – Burke is currently responsible for physical security at CenterState Bank, N.A., headquartered in Winter Haven, Fla., with 126 branch and non-branch facilities located in Florida, Georgia and Alabama. She began her career as a teller at the former First National Bank in Waukesha, and later gained experience and knowledge in several other areas of the banking industry. After joining the CenterState Bank team in 2000, she served in a variety of roles including Internal Control Officer, Senior Operations Officer, Assistant Branch Manager, V.P. Regional Operations Manager and in her current role as V.P. Bank Security Officer for the past eight years. Burke has also served in a variety of community service organizations including National Night Out, Feeding Children Everywhere and the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
Jane (Droegkamp) Lurvey (Class of 1969) – Lurvey majored in elementary education at the University of Dubuque in Dubuque, Iowa. She retired in 2014 after 27 years as a paraeducator at Magee Elementary School in Genesee Depot. An avid volunteer, Lurvey is very active in the Delafield Presbyterian Church, currently serving as a church elder and deacon, on numerous committees, and is a 25-year member of the hand bell choir. Lurvey is also the Loaves and Fishes Coordinator, Family Promise Coordinator, and Affordable Housing Coordinator for the church. She is a weekly hospice volunteer at AngelsGrace Hospice, an election inspector for the City of Delafield, and has been involved with the AFS Intercultural Program, Cushing PTO and Girl Scouts. 
David A. Nelson (Class of 1973) – Nelson currently serves as Managing Member and President of Healthcare Financial Management, LLC, a consulting firm specializing in healthcare related finance projects and interim financial executive services for healthcare entities. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Accountancy from the University of Mississippi, and a Master’s Degree in Healthcare Administration from the University of Minnesota. A former instructor of Advanced Healthcare Finance at the University of Minnesota and Rush University, Nelson is a Fellow of the Healthcare Financial Management Association and sits on their National Board of Examiners. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives. Nelson is active in his community, serving as board member and past president of the Northwest Wisconsin American Red Cross Chapter. He has been deployed to provide relief for eight national disasters over the last three years. Nelson is also a volunteer for Rotary, Kiwanis and Lions Clubs. 
The Kettle Moraine School District honors the accomplishments and humanitarian efforts of former graduates through nomination, selection and induction to the Trailblazer Hall of Fame. To be nominated, the candidate (living or deceased) must be a Kettle Moraine graduate of 10 years or more and has made, or is currently making, a significant contribution to society and their community.
