Soft Start For Week One
Kettle Moraine School Distrtict will offer the opportunity for learners to attend school in a face-to-face (F2F) setting for 2020-21. This decision comes with significant mitigation protocols and modifications for teachers and learners. Our ability to continue to offer F2F instruction depends on our ability to mitigate the virus via shared safety measures and strategies.
Due to these changing expectations, our elementary staff are planning for a modified, “soft start,” during the first week back to school.
Elementary students in (4K-5) in each school will be divided into four groups with each group attending one day during the first week of school (September 1-4). Siblings will be scheduled on the same day. This soft start will allow your student’s teacher(s) to begin/continue to build strong relationships, practice mitigation protocols and engage in baseline academic assessments. This small-group, focused training will provide the best opportunity for success when ALL elementary students selecting F2F will come together Tuesday, September 8. All students engaging in remote learning will begin instruction/learning Tuesday, September 1.
Each family will be assigned a soft start day, which will be emailed to you after the district registration period is complete August 9. Teacher assignments will be shared the third week of August. Great care will be taken to balance the groups and we ask that your learner attend on the scheduled day. Dousman Transport Company will know which days to expect your learner and we encourage you to have your child ride the bus on their appointed day if you intend to regularly use the bus. It will allow our drivers the opportunity to help your learner understand the transportation procedures.
Opportunity for In-Person Visits
In addition to our soft start, we are creating an opportunity for all students new to their school to attend an in-person visit providing time to meet teachers, visit classrooms and drop off supplies. This will include ALL 4K students, 5K students and any other students who didn’t attend a KM elementary school in 2019-20. The families in this group will be getting additional information for the opportunity occurring the week of August 25. All families (new and returning) will also be invited to an opportunity to attend a group virtual meeting with their classroom teacher. These meetings will occur either August 27 or August 31. Details will be sent via email to each family later in August.
We are excited to engage in some great learning opportunities with your family and your students. If you have questions about the expectations or plan, please contact Mrs. Sterner!
