Emergency Preparedness

  • The Kettle Moraine School District considers emergency preparedness, safety, and communications critically important to the welfare of students, staff, visitors, our schools and facilities, and the community we serve.  Effective emergency preparedness is a team effort supported by district administration, building principals, and public safety officials working together to provide an immediate and coordinated response. KMSD maintains a safety committee comprised of Co-Directors of Safety, administrators, building Emergency Response Teams, local law enforcement, emergency responders, and medical, insurance and transportation advisers.

The district maintains safety and security plans that reflect district standards as well as each unique building environment.  Plans are reviewed annually and include procedures to respond to critical incidents, crisis situations and natural disasters, such as fire or tornado.  The district practices safety through staff training and a schedule of monthly drills for the student body.

The actions taken during emergencies depend on the specific nature of the incident or threat and may occur in collaboration with, or under the direction of, local law officials.  As the response may vary, the communication will remain consistent to staff, students, parents and community.  The ability to address emergencies with planned response and a focus on student and staff safety is the primary objective in all instances.

If you have questions about school safety or the communication response please contact your building principal or a Co-Director of Safety. It is the responsibility of all KM staff to support emergency preparedness, safety and communication. Our objective is to continue a tradition of safe and healthy learning environments for all.
