    (Social Studies and Human Growth and Development)

     

    The purpose of an Instructional Plan Review (IPR) is to:

    • Analyze updated state and national standards
    • Analyze any legislative changes impacting the instructional program
    • Consider current learning targets or competencies and their alignment to the most recent state and national standards
    • Consider current learning targets or competencies and their integrated alignment to the Kettle Moraine Graduate Profile
    • Consider current learning targets or competencies and their alignment to college and career trends
    • Review and recommend any needs for core resources 
    • Create a communication and professional development plan to support instructional shifts recommended 

     

    Social Studies:  Kingergarten - 12th Grade Review

    Instruction in Kettle Moraine is also guided by the needs of the learners, the interests of the learners and achievement data.  Below is an outline of the process generally, a set of definitions to build common understanding and the specific plan for social studies. 
    Below is the process and timeline intended for an IPR for social studies:

    • August 2021- Teacher and leader teams representing K-12 will review the Wisconsin State Standards for Social Studies and the Common Core Standards for History to determine where the two sources overlap in standards which will suggest the MOST important standards.
    • August 2021- Teacher and leader teams representing K-12 will review any legislation related to social studies instruction.
    • August 2021-Communication to the staff regarding what was learned from the steps described above.
    • August 2021- September 2021- Teacher and leader teams representing K-12 will determine which of the standards have a major focus in a grade level or band, and which have a minor focus.   
    • October 1, 2021- Professional Development session to inform and get feedback. 
    • October 2021 - Teacher and leader teams representing K-12 will note where current practice and the determinations made above suggest gaps and overlaps using the gap analysis spreadsheet completed by K-12 social studies teachers.
    • November - December 2021 - Teacher and leader teams representing K-12 will revise the cover sheets for all social studies classes.
    • January 11, 2022 - Board update on progress
    • January 17, 2022 - Professional Development session to gather cover sheet feedback and revision suggestions. 
    • January - February 2022 - A determination of if/whether a core resource is needed and those that should be reviewed.  If a core resource need is apparent a pilot of resources will occur. Creation of guidelines to help teachers select appropriate resources for learners.   
    • April 4, 2022- Professional Development session to train staff on selecting resources that meet instructional and learner needs.
    • May 17, 2022- Board update on progress
    • June, 2022- If a core resource was determined to be necessary and was piloted, a District purchase will be made. 
    • 2022- 23 - Ongoing professional development and monitoring of implementation of expectations. 




    Human Growth and Development - Kindergarten through 12th Grade

     Process and timeline in development and will be presented to the Board of Education during the 2021-21 school year and will then be posted here.
