Frequently Asked Questions

How many students do you have?

  • We currently have 85 students in grades 9-12.  Each school year, we will accept 30 students per grade level.  If we have over 30 applications, our Governance Council will decide whether to go to a lottery or accept a higher number of students.

What do students like about KM Global?

  • Our students appreciate being able to have choice in their learning based on their strengths, pace, and interests. They also enjoy the opportunity to develop as a leader and to use their learning to impact others. We have a close community in which our teachers and students have strong working relationships.  Graduates report that in addition to being confident about academic content, they felt ahead of their peers in areas of time management, self-advocacy, organization, and problem-solving.

How does being a graduate of KM Global impact my post-secondary admissions?

  • Admissions counselors tell us that they are looking for students who excel academically and who bring unique perspectives and experiences to the university. KM Global offers a strong academic foundation as well as the opportunity to pursue experiences that help to develop leadership, a global perspective, and solid field experiences.

    From UW Madison’s Admissions Office:

“Our admission counselors review each application individually and are looking for students who demonstrate strong academic ability, as well as leadership, community service, creativity, talent, and enthusiasm. We also consider personal characteristics that will contribute to the strength and diversity of our university.”

Are there travel opportunities?

  • We offer several opportunities for community-based learning throughout the year.  In addition to that, we typically plan one international trip each school year.

Can a student take traditional courses?

  • While a majority of the content courses must be taken through projects, seminars and KM Global courses, students may opt to enroll in a traditional course (offered at a college, online, or Kettle Moraine High School). Because each learning plan is individualized, this may vary for each student.  The general guideline is a maximum of 3 credits outside of KM Global.  Typical classes taken in the High School include band, orchestra, choir, art, German, and AP math & science classes.

Can I participate in sports and extra-curricular activities as a KM Global student?

  • Yes, all extra-curricular activities, sports, guidance and health services on the KM campus are eligible for KM Global students. The majority of our students participate in KMHS campus sports and extra-curriculars.

Will I receive a Kettle Moraine High School Diploma?

  • KM Global graduates will receive a Kettle Moraine School District Diploma with a KM Global distinction.

Do KM Global students have open-campus?

  • Our school is designed to give students flexible schedules to learn in the community through field work, internships, and other relevant experiences.  Students earn the privilege of open-campus by being in good academic and behavioral standing. On an individual basis, we also work with families to individualize schedules due to scheduled volunteer activities, lessons or other enrichment experiences.

Do you offer Advanced Placement courses?

  • We currently offer AP Human Geography, AP Psychology, AP Literature, AP Language, as well as some Project Lead the Way Science courses.
