Wednesday, March 22, 6:30-8:00 PM, "Raising Kids Who Are Effective Learners, Thinkers, and Problem Solvers", Cushing Elementary Activity Center. Habits of the Mind (HOM) are the characteristics, behaviors and dispositions you implement when you’re confronted with a question to which the answer isn’t apparent, a challenging social interaction, or any situation that requires a higher level of thinking to navigate our changing world! The great thing is children and adults can discover, grow, and enhance these attributes in order to become better thinkers, problem solvers, and group members. There are 16 identified “readiness habits” that, when engaged, can build student success in the classroom, in the workplace, and in life.
All KM schools are discussing select readiness habits with our children, but there are also things that parents can do at home to boost these attributes in your own children. Join us to learn how you can incorporate these habits when you discuss homework problems, grades, or working on group projects. Parents can even incorporate the habits into chores, family activities, and relationship building. Our presenters will be KM Explore Director Laura Dahm, Magee Principal Sue Sterner, and KMHS Associate Principal Mike Vuolo. (Please note that if you were unable to participate in the KM book study on “Activating and Engaging the Habits of Mind”, this talk will give you an overview of the book.)
